Winter in Argyll is inevitably cold but this shouldn’t stop people from embracing the Christmas season. From winter festivals to carol singing beneath the stars, there’s so much to do at this time of year to get into the festive spirit and celebrate Christmas in style!

A Christmas at Knockdow House is without doubt a relaxing and pleasurable affair. From the warmth and comfort of the former great hall – thanks to its roaring fireplace – to plenty of radiators throughout, the space is warm and cosy – and a fantastic place to be during the Christmas season.

Christmas at Knockdow House – and in Dunoon, is filled with crisp walks amongst stunning landscapes, local festivities and delicious food and drinks. No matter your tastes or interests, there are endless events to enjoy.

Christmas Events in Dunoon

Some of the most popular events to take place in and around Dunoon at Christmastime include the annual Christmas lights switch-on, with a special guest appearance from Santa! Other activities include live music, a festive market, and much more.

The Jingle Bus

Another Christmas festivity to take place in Dunoon is the Queen’s Hall Christmas market, where you can jump on the Jingle Bus, a Christmas coach where Santa’s helpers are there to entertain kids and adults alike!

The coach stops off at Blairmore Hall for plenty of singing and entertainment, followed by some delicious cakes and treats. After filling up on sweets, it’s time to visit Santa on the Loch. This is a truly magical event for all the family!

Christmas Markets and Other Events

Aside from the annual Christmas lights and the Jingle Bus, you can also visit the Cowal Crafters Christmas Cracker and the Sandbank Christmas Fair, with gifts, crafts, refreshments, kids activities and much more.

Throughout the month of December there are so many Christmas markets to choose from, so if you’re looking for something special for your loved ones, this is the place to find it.

At the newly refurbished Queen’s Hall, guests can enjoy an array of wonderful shows. 2019 was a particularly special year for Queen’s Hall as the venue enjoyed its first ever pantomime performance, Peter Pan! The venue will also be hosting a Hogmanay event this New Year’s Eve, complete with a three course meal, DJ and band. As you can see there is plenty to do in Dunoon at Christmastime. Whether you prefer to stay at Knockdow House or explore Dunoon, the choices are endless.
