Knockdow House is a fabulous destination at any time of year. This 18th century building, which used to belong to Sir Norman Lamont, the 17th Laird of Knockdow, has so much history. From its stunning interiors to its incredible grounds, there is so much to see and enjoy at Knockdow House.

When it comes to the great outdoors, it’s not just Knockdow House that has plenty on offer. The local town of Dunoon offers visitors a broad range of activities all set amongst the most incredible scenery. From walking to sailing and everything else in between, there is so much to do here, whether you are a relaxed traveller or an avid explorer.  

Activities in and Around Dunoon

After finishing your breakfast it’s time to venture out and do some exploring. If you’re after historic attractions, head to Castle House museum, not far from Dunoon Victorian Pier, where you can learn all about the history of the local region.

Cycling and Mountain Biking

Dunoon has some of the most stunning mountain biking and road cycling routes imaginable, so if you’re looking for some off-the-beaten-track adventure, check out the hills and tracks behind Dunoon. The roads around Dunoon and Cowal are some of the best in the world, whether you’re after a relaxed cycle along the coast, or a more vigorous road run around the coast and hills of the Cowal Peninsula.

Sailing and kayaking

Dunoon is home to Holy Loch Marina, which is simply beautiful at any time of year. Sailors and yachtsmen alike will benefit from first-class facilities and professional staff, not to mention the most exquisite scenery imaginable, including the coastline of Dunoon. With its crystal clear waters, this is a paradise for sailors and sea kayakers of every level.

Something a little more low-key…

If you’re after something a little more low-key, there’s plenty of shopping to be done in Dunoon’s vibrant town centre, where you can enjoy many independent shops and unique retail outlets that you won’t find elsewhere!

Finally, there’s Taylor’s amusement arcade on the main street, where kids of all ages can while away the hours playing on the arcade games.
